James Major, 98, Heating Engineer
James Major, 98, of Vermilion, died Thursday, October 10, 2002, in Kingston of Vermilion after a 1 � year illness.
He was born July 18, 1904 in England. He was a Vermilion resident for 45 years moving from Elyria.
He had served in the United States Merchant Marines. He worked as a Heating Engineer for the Board of Education in Elyria retiring in July of 1975. He had also worked for Bessemer Steel in Ashtabula. He was a member of Engineers Local #589, Cleveland and the Schools Employment Retirement System in Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Bessie L. Major; step-son, Robert G. Weiss of Cleveland, step-daughters, Barbara C. Parnell of Bear, Catherine C. Sprague of Lorain, Florence M. Cajka of Parma Heights, 17 step-grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Elizabeth Major.
Friends may call Friday, October 11, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. The Reverend James Cox, pastor of Grace Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion.
