Stella M. Watson, 80, Enjoyed playing cards, bingo, traveling, camping, avid bowler & spending time with her granddaughter

Stella M. Watson (nee Mendak), 80, of Elyria, died Saturday, October 19, 2002 at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, following a sudden illness.

She was born October 12, 1922 in Bertha, PA. Moving to Lorain at 6 years old, she remained her for 45 years prior to moving to Elyria.

She graduated from Lorain High School in 1942.

Stella was employed as a clerk for the Norfolk Southern Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1986. Prior to that, she was one of the first female welders at American Shipyard, Lorain during WWII.

She was a member of the Church of the Open Door and enjoyed playing cards, bingo, traveling, camping, avid bowler, and spending time with her granddaughter, Simone Lute.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Howard Watson; 2 step-sons, Harry Watson of Sheffield Lake, Kenneth Watson of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter, Cynthia Simo Lute of Elyria; 3 step-daughters, Izetta Beam of Amherst, Peggy Lee Down of Malcom, Nebraska, Diana Thornton of Ashdown, Arkansas; granddaughter, Simone Estelle Lute; 17 step-grandchildren, 32 step-great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Charles Mendak, Michael Mendak, Steve Mendak, all of Lorain; and sister, Mary Zgola of Lorain.

She is preceded in death by her father, Harry Mendak in 1980; mother, Mary (nee Nakoneczna) Mendak in 1990; brother, John Mendak in 1976; and sister, Helen Cisar.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Bob Schroyer; Associate Pastor of Church of the Open Door will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
