Sophie Dzikielewski, LPN

Sophie Dzikelewski, (nee Olewinski) of Lake Orion, Michigan, formerly of Lorain, died Tuesday, October 29, 2002 in lake Orion Nursing Center, Michigan, following a lengthy illness.

She was born in DeCaorta, West Virginia, lived in Lorain most of her life and has been a resident of Lake Orion, Michigan since 1998.

She was a licensed practical nurse for 18 years, and had worked at the former Weitz Company. She was a graduate of Lorain High School 31B and St. Joseph School of Practical Nursing in 1961. She was past president of St. Joseph School of Practical Nursing Alumni Association. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital from 1961 to 1979 as a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the National Council of Catholic Women of Lorain County. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and vegetables, crocheting, cooking, baking, reading, shopping, and traveling.

Survivors include her son, Joseph Dzikielewski, Nettleton, Mississippi, a daughter, Joyce Barczyk of Rochester, Michigan; 4 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Anne Savinsky of Lorain, Geraldine Powers of Middletown Connecticut and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Joseph A., in 1989, parents Francis and Relicia (nee Rachuba) Olewinski; a sister, Christine Saegel and a brother, Stanley Olewinski.

Friends may call Friday, November 1, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Wolak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, where a rosary service will be conducted by the Nativity Altar & Rosary Society at 3:00 p.m.

Prayers will be said at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, followed by 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 W. `15th Street, Lorain, with the Rev. Robert J. Glepko, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
