John Lengyel Jr., 89, US Veteran
John Lengyel, Jr., age 89 of Vermilion, died Saturday, November 2, 2002 at Community Health Partners in Lorain following a sudden illness.He was born on September 4, 1913 in Monessen, PA and has been a Vermilion resident since 1971. He also lived in Cleveland and Lakewood.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1942-1946. He received the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with One Bronze Star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon and a Victory Medal.
He worked as a pipe fitter for Eaton Heater in Cleveland from 1938 until his retirement in 1971. He enjoyed fishing and doing yard work.
Survivors include his wife, Sophie Lengyel (nee Makowski) of Vermilion; sisters, Margaret Noga of Vermilion and Elizabeth Zadnikar of Cleveland; brother, Albert Lengyel of Euclid; Several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John Lengyel, Sr. and Julianna Kepitan Lengyel and several brothers and sisters.
Private family services will he held at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
