Mary L. Smith, 86, Enjoyed cooking, traveling and reading
Mary L. Smith (nee Cooper) age 86, of Lorain, died Saturday, November 2, 2002 in EMH Regional Health Center in Elyria, Ohio from complications from pneumonia and a stroke.She was born February 7, 1916 in Lorain, and lived in Lorain her entire life.
She had worked in the office for an Insurance company, and was a licensed beautician in Lorain. She was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church and its Marion Guild Christian Mothers, assisted in the school library and helped driving the nuns of the church to their appointments. She was a Girl Scout Troup Leader and a Cub Scout den mother. Her hobbies included cooking, traveling and reading.
Survivors include a daughter Linda A. Capretta of Lorain, son Ted M. Smith of Lorain, 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and a sister Delight Cooper of Lorain, Ohio.
Preceding her in death were her husband John Smith in 1991 parents Anthony and Thomasina (DeFranco) Cooper, brother Thomas and sister Leondina Antonelli.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue Lorain, where a rosary service will be conducted by the Marion Guild Christian Mothers at 4:30 p.m. and a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.
Prayer service Wednesday at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. will be followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Anthony of Padua Church 1305 East Erie Ave., Lorain, with the Rev. Charles Henkle, associate pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.
