William C. Hughes, 77, Roofer

William C. Hughes, 77, of Elyria, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2002 at EMH Regional Medical Center following a short illness.

Born January 12, 1925 in Flossie, KY, he moved to the area and was a resident of the area for the past 50 years.

Mr. Hughes retired from Norton Brothers Roofing in 1988. He was a roofer with Local 44 for 50 years.

Mr. Hughes is an Army veteran of WWII. He is a member of the Red Devil Tank Co. and served in the European Theater and was awarded three bronze stars.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Elyria, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion.

Mr. Hughes enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty (nee Clark), sons: Charles Orndoff of Willard, OH, Barry Schriver of PA, daughters, Linda Patti of York, SC, Melody Zimmerman of Lorain, Tammy Dean of Vermilion, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, brother, Ernest Hughes of Oberlin, sisters, Betty Whitmire of FL, Edith New of KY, Norma Jean Bales of KY.

He is preceded in death by his son, James Hughes, daughters Sherry Hughes and Sally Ann Gray, parents, James and Hettie Hughes.

Friends may call on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 from 6-9 p.m. at Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday with a 9:30 a.m. prayer service in the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Elyria. Fr. James R. Ols, will officiate. VFW Post 1079 will conduct military honors.

Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Avon.
