Mary A. Kiska, 95, Enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, raising strawberries and evergreens
Mary A. Kiska (nee Brazina), age 95, of Lorain, died Monday November 25, 2002 at Community Heath Partners Hospital and Surgical Center following a brief illness. She was born November 23, 1907 in Clymer, Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Lorain since 1920.Mrs. Kiska was the manager of the kitchen at the American Slovak Club in Lorain serving as the head cook for more than fifty years. She was instrumental in supervising the weekly Friday fish dinners as well as catering wedding receptions and political events conducted at the club. She was actively employed in that capacity until the age of 92.
A parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain, she was a member of church's Altar & Rosary Society, its Ladies' Guild, and the Slovak Catholic Sokols Wreath #111.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as the company of her co-workers at the American Slovak Club and many club patrons who became a part of her life. Additional interests include gardening, and raising strawberries and evergreens.
Survivors include her son: David "Blackie" Kiska of Lorain, daughter: Joan Vance of Neward, Ohio, a sister: Helen Koscho of Lorain, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years: Paul W. Kiska in 1981, by her parents: Michael and Mary (nee Gajdos) Brazina, by brothers: Jack, Joseph, and Michael, and by sisters: Anne Brazina, Gazella Kaya, and Margaret Edwards.
Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Funeral services will begin Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with a rosary being recited by members of the Holy Trinity Altar & Rosary Society. Closing prayers will follow the rosary at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church - 2428 Elyria Avenue - Lorain. The Rev., David A. Novak, pastor of the church will serve as the principal celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.
