Frank M. "Bommer" Bomback, 83, World War II Veteran
Frank M. "Bommer" Bomback, age 83, of Lorain, died on Thursday, December 5, 2002 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center-West, following a long illness.Mr. Bomback was born November 24, 1919 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He resided in Lorain most of his life. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving with the 45th Division as an infantryman in the Central Europe, Rhineland and Ardennes campaigns. His service awards include the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal and M-1 Sharpshooter Medal. Mr. Bomback was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy, Chapter #20, Lorain.
He was formerly employed in the Transportation Dept. of Lorain Works US Steel, retiring n 1982 after 41 years. While employed he was actively involved with the United Steelworkers Union Local 1104, serving at various times in elected positions of Guard, Guide, and Trustee.
During his youth, Mr. Bomback also served for two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Swanton, Ohio and Superior, Montana. He enjoyed gardening, playing his guitar, and singing.
Survivors are his wife of 61 years: Julia, who he lovingly called "my angel" sons: Ron and Les, both of Lorain, and Gary of Amherst, daughter: Cathy Kelly of Lorain, brother: Andrew of Lorain and 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Mr. Bomback was preceded in death by his parents John and Johanna, brothers John Jr., Anthony, Joseph, Ray, Daniel, and Ralph, sisters: Frances Lowry, Jenny Shinsky, Ellen Ronez, and Justina Mateka, and grandson Lee Alan Bomback.
Visitation will be on Sunday December 8, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 9, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by 10:00 a.m. mass at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lorain, Rev. Fr. Joe West, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 will conduct full military honors.
