Everett Harvey McGinnis, 86, World War II Veteran

Everett Harvey McGinnis, 86 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at his home following a lingering illness.

He was born August 31, 1916 in Austin, West Virginia. He was a resident of Lorain and Amherst for many years. Vermilion has been his home since 1989.

During World War II, he worked as a welder at American Ship Building Corp. of Lorain. He also worked in Avon Lake at the FrauhaufTrailer Corp. for ten years and retired from Ford Motor Corp., Lorain in 1977 as an assembler after 17 1/2 years.

Survivors include his sons, Russell G. McGinnis of Michigan and Gary E. McGinnis of Jacksonville, Florida; his daughters Betty Smith of Nova, Margaret O'Neal of Vermilion and Shirley Klingman of Lorain; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Frances Lucille McGinnis (nee Smith) on February 22, 1998; by his daughter Janet Newston; by his parents Ira Guy and Lora Anzie (nee Bolyard) McGinnis; and by his brother Nelson McGinnis.

Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hemple Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. J.D. McIntosh, pastor of Washington Street Church of Christ, Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
