Gumersindo DeLeon, 80, Enjoyed playing dominos and quatro
Gumersindo DeLeon, 80, of Lorain died Sunday, March 2, 2003 at his residence after an illness of three months. He was under the care of New Life Hospice. He was born on January 13, 1923 in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico.He came to Lorain in 1948 to work at US Steel. He later became an assembler at the Brook Park Ford Engine Plant, retiring in 1975 with 13 years of service there.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, the Holy Name Society, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Cursillo Movement. He was also a member of U.A.W. Local 1250. He enjoyed dominoes and playing the quarto (Puerto Rican Guitar).
Surviving is his wife of 22 years, the former Virgen Rivera; six sons: William of Lorain, Joseph of Houston, Texas, Robert of Kissimmee, Florida, Michael of Kansas City, Missouri, Samuel of Cleveland, Ohio, and Henry of Lorain, 8 daughters: Carmen Oliveras of Lorain, Rosemary DeLeon of Wellington, Margaret Duran of Toledo, Mercedes, Theresa, Catalina, Lucy, all of Cleveland, and Martha of Lorain, 22 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 5 brothers: Gabriel of Cleveland, Adelnio of Rio Peidras, Puerto Rico, Antonio of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Abraham and Inginio, both of Patillas, Puerto Rico, 5 sisters: Elena Paganand, Candita Santiago, both of Youngstown, Lula, Isabelle, and Sister M. Monin, all of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Eleanor Pagan, in 1977.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 4, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Friends may also call on Wednesday, March 5, 2003 from 9:00 am until time of mass at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 pearl Ave., Lorain. Rev. Father William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
