Patrick D. Kelley, 73, Enjoyed gardening, reading, listening to polka music, and family


Patrick D. Kelley, 73 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born June 29, 1929 in Elyria, but was raised and has lived his life in Amherst.

Patrick was a graduate of Amherst Central High School. He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean War Service Medal with three bronze stars. He was a member of the Amherst American Legion Post 118. He worked as union carpenter as well as a self-employed carpenter for thirty years retiring in 1984. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, reading, listening to polkas, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Elaine (nee Heddleson) to whom he was married forty eight years, son Bruce Kelly of Lorain, daughters: Marilyn Sidum of Lexington, KY, Patricia Kelley and Sandra Kohart both of Amherst, four grandchildren, brother Edward Kelley of Vermilion.

He was preceded in death by parents, Edward P. and Stefana (nee Bash) Kelley, by brothers Arthur and Bernard, by sisters Betty Wnek and Rosemary Kelly.

Friends may call Tuesday, March 4, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst with the Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph; 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
