Robert J. Bastock, 74, World War II Army Veteran
Robert J. Bastock, age 74, of Lorain, died Monday March 3, 2003 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain following an extended illness. He was born July 18, 1928 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.Mr. Bastock was a graduate of Lorain High School and went on to attend Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. While there he was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran; he attained the rank of sergeant and was assigned to the 9th Infantry Regiment as a tank commander and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal.
He was employed as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service and had retired from the Sheffield Lake Branch in 1984 following 31 years of service. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Mr. Bastock was a life member of the American Slovak Club as well as Amvets Post #47 both of Lorain. He was an ardent fan of televised sports and especially football.
Survivors include sons: Michael R. Bastock and Brian C. Bastock both of Lorain, Robert C. Bastock, Jr. residing in Amherst, 2 granddaughters, and a brother: Del Bastock of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Mary (nee Captain) in 2000, and by his parents: John and Margaret (nee Szabo) Bastock in 2000.
Private family funeral services will be held in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - Lorain. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
