Richard W. Saylor, 58, Enjoyed hunting, watching races and various junior divisions of Nascar
Richard W. Saylor, age 58 of Lorain, died March 4, 2003 at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Iverness, Florida following an extended illness. Mr. Saylor was born September 19, 1944 in Somerset, Pennsylvania, and had been a resident of Lorain since 1952. For the past three years he had also maintained a winter residence in Inverness.He was a graduate of Lorain Admiral King High School and went on to serve with the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was the recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the Amvets Post #22 of Vermilion, American Legion Post #30 of Lorain, and Mullen-Murray Post #451 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars - Lorain.
Mr. Saylor was employed as a High Voltage Electrician for the American Steel and Wire Corporation of Cuyahoga Heights, Ohio; he retired from that position in 2000.
A parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, he enjoyed hunting, and watching races in the various junior divisions of NASCAR.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years: Maria (nee Inchaurregui), sons: Ronald Haas of Amherst, Ohio, David Haas of Lorain, Ohio, Michael Saylor of Birmingham, Alabama, daughters: Sherrie Bishop of Grafton, and Tracy Hernandez of Lorain, 9 grandchildren, mother: Ethel (nee Huffman) Saylor of Somerset, Pennsylvania, brother: Clifford Saylor of Confluence, Pennsylvania, and sisters: Donna Lazeur of Lorain, and Carol Friedman of Boswell, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his father: Harry Saylor and brother: Robert.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by his funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church - 1305 East Erie Avenue - Lorain. The Reverend Joseph West, O.F.M. Conv., pastor of St. Anthony will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain where military honors will be conducted by officers and members of the American Legion Post #30 of Lorain.
