David Gonzalez, 46, Co-founder of Football Darts

David Gonzalez, age 46, of San Diego, California, and formerly of Lorain, died suddenly, Wednesday, March 5, 2003. Born July 28, 1956 in Lorain, he moved to San Diego in 1975 and frequently returned to Lorain to visit his family and friends.

He was a 1975 graduate of Southview High School, and then served four years in the US Navy. During that time, he was stationed in San Diego, California, having served part of that time overseas.

He was a self-employed painting contractor in San Diego, CA for the past 15 years. He was also the co-creator of a game called Football Darts, which combines the skills of darts with the rules and strategies of football. David, co-founder and vice president started the company and website www.footballdarts.com, to promote this local game on a national level, which had already received attention from one of the local television news stations in San Diego, CA.

He attended Sacred Heart Chapel in Ocean Beach, CA, and Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain when he visited here.

He enjoyed playing darts, football, basketball, swimming, and surfing in the ocean.

Surviving is his parents, Jose Mariano and Juanita (nee Lopez Rodriguez) Gonzalez, of Lorain, brothers: Jose M. Jr., of Oberlin, Edwin, Harold, Nelson, all of Lorain, and Franklin, of Elyria, several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, William in 1990.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 from 6-9 in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where Deacon Rocky Ortiz, will conduct a wake service at 8:15 pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at 9:15 am in the funeral home, followed by a mass at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, will conduct full military honors.
