Peter Anthony Mayer, 97, Enjoyed hunting
Peter Anthony Mayer, 97 years of age, of Wakeman, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 in Elyria United Methodist Village after a brief illness. He was born February 9, 1906 in Vermilion. He was a lifelong are resident.He worked as a Tool & Die Maker for Bendix Westinghouse, Elyria retiring in 1972. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion and enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by two sons, Peter Anthony Mayer, Jr. of Bellevue, Ohio and Loren Michael Mayer of Florence, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two brothers, Frank Mayer of Vermilion and Andy Mayer of Vermilion, and a sister, Mary Beursken of Vermilion, OH.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 1986, parents Joseph and Anne (nee Roth) Mayer, four sisters: Lizzy, Annie, Josephine, and Dorothy, and four brothers: Nick, Art, John, and Bill Mayer.
Friends may call on Sunday, March 9, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. A Christian Wake service will be held at 8:30 PM.
Prayers will be said at the funeral home at noon Monday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 PM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Father Ben Ringholz will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
