Felix "Ponce" Cedino Calez, 89, Avid Cleveland Indians fan

Felix "Ponce" Cedino Calez, Sr., 89 of Lorain died Friday, March 7, 2003 in New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, Lorain following a lengthy illness.

He was born June 13, 1913 in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico. He moved to Lorain in 1948.

Mr. Calez retired from the United States Steel Lorain-Cuyahoga Works of Lorain in 1978 as a burner in the #3 Seamless finishing end. He worked there for 30 years. He was also a member of United States Steel Workers Local 1104, Lorain.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, South Lorain. He also was a member of the Puerto Rican Home. Mr. Calez loved vegetable and flower gardening, as well as maintaining his home. In the 1960s he played softball for the Happy Boys Pool Room in South Lorain, and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. He listened to and watched television broadcasts of the Indians on a regular basis.

Among the survivors are his son Felix Calez, Jr., daughters Sonia Calez of Lorain, and Gladys Calez of Ponce, Puerto Rico, five grandsons, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Angela (nee Sanchez) Calez in 1998, parents Bautista in 1960 and Isedira (nee Cedino) Calez in 1970; brother Antonio Calez in 1984, and sister Angelica (nee Calez) Ramon in 2002.

Friends may call Tuesday, 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, Lorain. Friends may also call Wednesday at 8:00 AM until time of funeral mass at 8:30 AM in Sacred Heart Chapel, 4310 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. The reverend William A. Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
