George D. Gikas, 54, Owned George's Carpet, enjoyed spending time with family
George D. Gikas, age 54, of Elyria, died Saturday march 8, 2003 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Gikas was born August 9, 1948 in Athens, Greece and had been a resident of Lorain County since 1956 coming from his native Greece.He was a 1967 graduate of Lorain Admiral King High School. He was an US Army veteran serving as a Specialist 4 with the 97th Transportation Company during the Viet Nam Conflict. (1968-1970). Upon his return from the military service, he enrolled in Cleveland State University and earned his Bachelors of Science in Business degree.
George was employed as a sales representative and a manager for the Carpet Barn and Tile House in Elyria fro many years. He later began his own flooring company, which was known as George's Carpet.
Mr. Gikas' hobbies included traveling, and spending with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his son Dimitrios G. Gikas of Elyria, daughter Maria Klima of Lorain, two grandsons, his former wife Mary (nee Severa) Gikas of Lorain, and sisters Zaf Gikas of Rocky River and Anastasia Huffman of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his father James in 1994 and his mother Mary in 1967, and by his sister Georgia Gikas in 2001.
Friends may call Tuesday, March 11, 2003 from 3-9 pm in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain where a Trisaylon service will be conducted at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 am in S. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Boulevard, Lorain. The Reverend Michael Gulgas, pastor of St. Nicholas Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain where military honors will be conducted by officers and members of Mullen-Murray Post #451 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
