Anthony R. Oravec Sr., 87, American Crucible Retiree
Anthony R. Oravec, Sr., 87, of Lorain, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Avon after a long illness. He was born June 13, 1915 in Portage, Pennsylvania and had resided in the Lorain area since childhood.Mr. Oravec worked as a machine operator at American Crucible in Lorain for 20 years retiring in 1975.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain. He enjoyed gardening, reading and doing crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his son Anthony J. Oravec, Jr., of Lorain, Anthony T. Oravec III of Columbia, South Carolina, brother Sylvester Oravec of Hillsdale, Michigan, sister Cecelia Tornabene of Lorain, and longtime friend and companion Geraldine Jurczynski of Elyria. He was preceded in death by his wife Felicia Helen Oravec (nee Forma) in 1967, parents Adolph and Mary Oravec (nee Soltis), sisters Clara Oravec and Mary Baker and brothers: Joseph, John, Adolph, Edward, and Frank Oravec.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 16, 2003 from 7-9 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Private family funeral services will be held. The Rev. David Novak, pastor of Holy Trinity Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
