Stella Kielar, 87, Excellent cook and baker, loved to garden

Stella Kielar, (nee Butkowski), age 87, of Lorain, died March 11, 2003 at the Harborside Care Center in Westlake, Ohio following an extended illness. She was born October 29, 1915 in Gary, Indiana and had been a resident of Lorain County for most of her life.

Mrs. Kielar had been employed as a seamstress for the Weitz Clothing Company of Lorain and later as a cook for the former Airport Tavern, which was located at the corner of Oberlin Avenue and West 37th Street.

Extremely proud of her Polish heritage, she was an avid churchgoer and longtime parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain where she was a member of its Altar & Rosary Society.

She was an accomplished cook and baker and was well known for her cookies, pies, and cakes. Additional interests included flower gardening and raising African Violets.

Survivors include her daughter Bunnie Pappas of Lorain, grandson Dino E. Pappas of Lorain, and great granddaughters Kayleigh and Emily.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward in 2001, by brothers: Leon and Edward Butkowski, half-brother Frank Butkowski, and half sister Victoria Nehmey.

Visitation will be Friday, March 14, 2003 from 5-8 pm in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain where a rosary will be recited by members and officers of the Altar and Rosary Society of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church at 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday beginning at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel and will be followed by her funeral mass at 10:00 am in the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family suggests memorials in her name to Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 418 West 15th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
