Mary E. Konya, 86, Took pride in her gardening and floral designs

Mary E. Konya, (nee Vigh), age 86, of Avon, died Saturday, March 15, 2003 at her residence. Born April 14, 1916 in Lorain, she lived her until moving to Avon in 1990.

Dedicated to her faith, Mary was a member of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Lorain, and the church's St. Ann Auxiliary 287 of the Knights of St. John, and the Mothers Club. She was also a member of the Autumn Rebels of Avon.

Mary took pride in her gardening and had a passion for outdoor flower gardening and creative flora design. She also enjoyed pastry baking, and had a dedicated love for her family and friends. Mary took great pride in her Hungarian heritage.

Surviving is her son, William D. Konya, of Anchorage, Alaska, and her daughters, Karen Bennet and Linda Konya, both of Avon, and her companions Medve and Michael.

She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, William J. Konya, in 1991, brothers, Louis J. Vigh, and Andrew Vigh, sisters Helen DeViney, and Anna Vegh, and her parents Andras Vegh, and Anna (Magyar) Vegh.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, beginning at 10:00 am I the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where a rosary service will be conducted at 10:30 am followed by funeral services at 11:00 am. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 am at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, E. 29th Street and Wood Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. James P. Schmitz, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
