Anne M. Banko, 78, Public Housing Administration Accountant

Photo of Anne M. Banko Anne M. Banko, 78, of Lorain, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003 in the intensive care unit of Community Health Partners Hospital & Surgical Center in Lorain.

She was born October 20, 1924 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident. She was a 1942 graduate of Lorain High School and attended the University of Illinois for 2 1/2 years.

Ms. Banko worked as an office manager at the USWA Local # 1104 in Lorain for 15 years. She then worked as an accountant for the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority for 20 years. She also worked for this Chicago Regional Office of Public Housing Administration as an auditor for ten mid-western states including Ohio. Later she worked for the city of Lorain in the electrical department retiring in 1991.

Ms. Banko was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township where she taught Parish School of Religion and worked bingo. She was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Altar & Rosary Society and the Holy Trinity Altar & Rosary Society. She volunteered with St. Joseph Hospice and was a member of the Lorain Police Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling.

She is survived by her nieces Maureen Costello of Lorain, Sharon Anne Thomas of Hilliard and Susan Joy Richardson of Ravenna, two great nephews Todd Richardson of Delaware, Ohio and Trent Richardson of Columbus and one great great nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Beatrice (nee Bokar) Banko and sisters: Beatrice Roth, Rose Costello and Frances Banko.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 21, 2003 from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:30 am at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. A funeral mass will follow Friday at 12 noon at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David Novak, pastor, will officiate. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
