Ruth L. Lamar, 89, Avid Reader

Ruth L. Lamar (nee Rowland) age 89, of Huntington Tennessee, and formerly of Lorain, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at Life Care Center in Bruceton, Tennessee following an extended illness. Born January 23, 1914 in Horn Lake, Mississippi, she resided in Lorain from 1959 to 1996, before moving to Huntington.

She was a member and Sunday school teacher at the Lorain Baptist Church until 1986. Mrs. Lamar attended the Memphis Business College and was employed as a secretary at the University of Tennessee. She later worked as the assistant to the pastor at Barton Heights Baptist Church in Tennessee.

Mrs. Lamar was an avid reader.

She is survived by her daughter: Mary Ann Lamar of Morganton, NC and son: William L. Lamar of Huntington, TN: grandsons: Mark Lamar, Michael Lamar, and Warren Lamar; granddaughter: Beth Griffaw; great grandchildren: Tessa, Spencer, Olivia, and Wesley Lamar and Chris Griffaw.

Mrs. Lamar was preceded in death by her husband William E. Lamar on November 5, 1995; granddaughter: Martha Lois Lamar; parents: Luther N. and Hester (nee Liming) Rowland; twin sister: Eloise; sisters: Nialene Hall, Grace Williams, and Mable McConnell; and brother: Wade Rowland.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. The Rev. Guy Morton, pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church - Vermilion will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
