Victor E. "Vinny" Wilhelm, 44, Enjoyed camping, lake fishing, hunting, golf, and Nascar Racing

Victor E. "Vinny" Wilhelm, age 44, of Lorain, died Monday March 31, 2003 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born January 7, 1959 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.

Mr. Wilhelm was a 1977 graduate of Lorain Southview High School where he was a standout fullback on the varsity football team earning four varsity letters. He was also a member of the varsity basketball team. Following graduation from Southview, he went on to attend Ball State University where he also played football.

A parishioner of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, he was employed as a laborer with Laborer's Local #758 of Lorain for the past 24 years. For the last 12 years he had been affiliated with Mosser Construction of Fremont.

His interest included camping, lake fishing, hunting, golf, and NASCAR auto racing.

He is survived by his son: Eric of Lorain, fathers: Elmer Wilhelm of Lorain, brothers: Rodger and Jack of Lorain, Tom of Avon Lake, and Fred of Bridgeport, West Virginia, and sisters: Beverly Tomazic and Kristine Wilhelm both of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his mother Mary (nee Mihalik) 1983.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel located at 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in the St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church located at the corner of Grove Avenue and Homewood Drive. The Reverend Thomas Smith, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family suggests memorials in his memory to the Catholic Charities Appeal.
