Howard N. Wieland Sr., 87, Avid reader, enjoyed league bowling, and listening to big band music
Howard N. Wieland Sr., age 87, of Lorain, died Sunday April 6, 2003 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center following a brief illness. He was born August 29, 1915 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.Mr. Wieland joined the Wieland Printing Company, a business founded by his father in 1925, as a printer and lithographer. He remained active with the firm from the time he joined in the mid 1930's until the time of his retirement in 1988. Prior to joining his father in business, he was employed as a milling machine operator for the former White-Roth Company of Lorain.
He was an avid reader who amassed an extensive collection of National Geographic magazines. Additional interests included league bowling, and listening to big band music.
Mr. Wieland is survived by his son: Howard N. Wieland Jr., of Holliston, Massachusetts, daughters: Marcella Bedo of Lorain and Shirley Cervantes of Elyria Township, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife: Jennie M. (nee Lunn) in 1990, his parents: Norman and Ada (nee Jordan) Wieland, and sisters: Marion Schieferstein, Ruth McCleneghan, and Anna DeWeese.
Private family funeral services will be conducted Wednesday in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Reverend Mr. John Slatcoff, permanent deacon at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Amherst Township.
