Jose Baez-Rivera, 86, Enjoyed carpentry and fishing
Jose Baez-Rivera, age 86, of Lorain, died on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Louis Stokes VA Hospital, Brecksville, following a lengthy illness.Born on July 28, 1916 in Maunabo, Puerto Rico, he lived in New York before coming to Lorain in 1998.
Jose served in the United States Army as a private.
While living in New York he worked as a bus driver for the New York City Bus Company for 17 years, retiring in 1981. He also worked in construction as a carpenter for Copeland Display Corporation, New York City.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. He enjoyed carpentry and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years: Isabel Mangual-Molina, daughter Isabel Cruz, of Lorain, sons: Jose Baez, Jr., and Luis Angel Acosta, both of Lorain, 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, brothers: Regaldo, Narciso, of Puerto Rico, and sisters: Carmen, Aurelia, and Mercedes, all of Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dolores and Maria (nee Rivera) Baez, brothers: Victor, Simon, Domingo and sisters: Sixta Rogelia and Ana Maria.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 10, 2003 from 6-9 PM in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 8:45 AM followed by a 9:30 AM mass at Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
The Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, will conduct full military honors.
