Norwood H. Becker, 83, Nordson Corp. Retiree

Norwood H. Becker, 83, years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, April 14, 2003, at Amherst Manor Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

He was born August 11, 1919 in Amherst. He has been a lifetime resident of Amherst and graduated from Amherst Central High School with the class of 1937.

He served in the US Army during World War II with the 324th Infantry Regiment in the 44th Division in the European Theater. While in the service, he received the Purple Heart, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon and European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with Three Bronze Stars. He was employed by the Nordson Corp. in Amherst for 47 years retiring in 1984 with the Inventory Control Department. He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Amherst, the Amherst American Legion Post #118, the Lorain D.A.V. Post #20 and a past member of the Amherst Eagles.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Jane C. (Chappell) Becker; his son Roger Becker of Amherst; his brother Gilbert Becker of Lorain; and his sister LaVone Werner of Holiday, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Maida (nee: Bahl) Becker.

Friends may call Wednesday, April 16, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home with the Amherst Military Honor Guard performing honors. The Rev. Harriett Culp, Interim Pastor of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Amherst will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Peter Untied Church of Christ; 582 Church Street, Amherst, Ohio 44001.
