John A. Navalinsky, 86, WWII US Navy Veteran
John A. Navalinsky, 86, of Lorain, died Wednesday April 16, 2003 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain after a three-month illness.He was born October 10, 1916 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain most of his life.
Mr. Navalinsky served in the US Navy during World War II as a Fireman First Class. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one star, the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with one star and the WWII Victory Medal.
He worked at US Steel in Lorain as a fireman and security guard for 32 years retiring in 1982. Prior to that he worked as Steel Stamping in Lorain, American Shipbuilding in Lorain and Cleveland Diesel.
Mr. Navalinsky was a member of the American Legion Post #30 in Lorain. He enjoyed playing bingo, making jewelry, finishing and his rock collection.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Anna (nee Skiba); son Bob Navalinsky of Lorain, daughter Jane Bernat of Olmsted Falls; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony & Mary (nee Sinkavich) Navalinsky and Brother Steve Navalinsky in 2002.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimno-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Dr. Ralph Krupp, deacon of the Catholic Church of St. Peter of Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township where the American Legion Post #30 will conduct military honors.
