Gertrude Anna Finnegan, 86, Loved cooking, sewing, gardening, and flowers

Gertrude Anna Finnegan (nee McQueen), 86 years of age, and a resident of Henrietta Township passed away Monday, April 21, 2003 at Community Health Partners H & S Center, Lorain following a lengthy illness.

Born September 4, 1916 in Brownhelm Township, she graduated from Brownhelm High School and lived there till 1950 when she moved to Amherst and lived in the Quigley Museum till 1959. She has been a resident of Henrietta Township since 1959.

Gertrude graduated from the Oberlin Business School and worked for the Amherst Hardware as a bookkeeper until she and her husband started a family. She was a member of Brownhelm United Church of Christ and loved cooking, sewing, gardening, and flowers.

Survivors include her sons Farrell James "Jim" Finnegan of Vermilion, Michael H. Finnegan of Berlin Heights, Patrick W. Finnegan of Henrietta Township, her daughter Mary Rennie of Henrietta Township, 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Farrell John Finnegan on May 19, 1979, her parents Milo and Mary Gertrude (nee Bacon) McQueen, brother William McQueen and by her sisters: Ethel Abraham, Helen Marshall, Esther Johnson, and Elsie Bender.

Friends may call Tuesday, April 22, 2003 from 4-8 PM at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the funeral home. The Rev. Gary Lunsford, pastor of First United Methodist Church, South Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.
