Almon Garrett, 68, Avid Sports fan and automobile enthusiast

Almon Garrett, 68, of Lorain died Monday April 28, 2003 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home following a two month illness. He was born January 31, 1935 in Cherokee Alabama and had been a resident of Lorain County since his childhood.

He was a 1953 Clearview High School graduate. He was also an avid sports fan and participated in Lorain City Baseball and Softball leagues as a member of the Lorain Glass team. He also played softball for the Elyria American Legion League. He was an automobile enthusiast.

He was employed as a mechanic for Kyle Motors, retiring in 1992 after more than 30 years of service. He had previously served in the same capacity for Lupe Chevrolet.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patricia (nee Ksenich); son: Steve of North Ridgeville; daughters: Sandra Garrett of Lorain, Susan Pearl of Parma; Grandsons: Nathan Blair, Benjamin Pearl, and Jonathon Pearl, as well as his mother, Effie (nee Taylor) Garrett of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his father: Rather A. Garrett in 1989 and by his sister: Wilodean Kostoff in 2001.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Rev. David A. Novak, pastor of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and Brother Jim Hiser, representing Toledo Road Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
