Derward K. "Shorty" McKissick, 64, Retired from Ford in 2000, and enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and cars
Derward K. "Shorty" McKissick, age 64, of Lorain, died on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at his residence following a brief illness.He was born May 2, 1938 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, moving to Lorain in 1954.
Derward was employed as a painter at Ford Motor in Lorain and Avon, for 30 years, retiring December 31, 2000. Prior to this he was employed at Fruehauf Trailer Company for 7 years. He was a member of the United AutoWorkers Local #2000 of Lorain.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and cars.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carolyn Ann (nee Greenless), son Derward Kenneth McKissick Jr., of Lorain, daughters: Linda Hammond, Diana McKissick, both of Elyria, Cherry McKissick, Tina Goble, both of Lorain, Debbie McKissick, Mary Ellen McKissick and Brenda Murley, all of Medford, Oregon, 29 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and brother Orrie McKissick, of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy McKissick in 2000, parents Floyd and Jennie (nee Ward) McKissick, 4 grandchildren, and brothers Robert McKissick, Jr., and Jesse S. McKissick and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 3, 2003 from 10:00 AM until time of services at 1:00 PM in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, with the Rev. Bill Tumbleson, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
