James J. Martin, 65, US Army Veteran
James J. Martin - 65 of Avon Lake, formerly of Uniontown, PA, passed away, Wednesday, April 30 after a 5-week illness. Mr. Martin was born, August 16, 1937 in Uniontown and has lived in Avon Lake for 28 years.Mr. Martin was in sales most of his life. He was a US Army Veteran serving with TRECOM (Transportation, Research and Engineering) as a Test Pilot during the 1960s. He was an avid athlete in baseball, football and basketball. He enjoyed golfing and old westerns.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn whom he married, August 1961. Other survivors include son James J. Martin Jr., of Lorain and daughter Chris Martin of Brunswick; brother Peter Martin and sister Dorothy Crossland. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Martin, brothers, Jon Martin, Thomas Martin and sisters, Ruth Saylor, Marie Duna, Patricia Johnson and Margaret Andey.
Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Rd. Avon Lake, Friday, May 2, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m. Prayer service will be at the funeral home, Saturday, May 3 at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, 32929 Lake Rd. Avon Lake at 9:30 a.m. Fr. Timothy J. O'Connor of the church will officiate. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorial maybe forwarded to the church.
