Luba Rancher, 48, US Steel Lorain Works employee, enjoyed her culture, family, and gardening

Luba Rancher (nee Szuja), age 48, of Amherst Township, died Friday, May 2, 2003 at her home. She was born August 3, 1954 in Lorain and was a 1972 graduate of Admiral King High School. She went on to attend the Northern Institute of Cosmetology.

Mrs. Rancher was employed for U.S. Steel Lorain Works and its successor companies for more than 29 years. She was most recently serving as a billet caster on the casting floor of the R.E.P. facility of the steel mill.

Mrs. Rancher was the daughter of Ukrainian immigrants and was extremely proud of her heritage. She completed twelve years of cultural studies at the Ukrainian School sanctioned by her home parish of St. John Ukrainian Catholic Church and remained interested in all facets of that culture.

Additional interests included flower gardening, dancing, karaoke, and the company of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 6 years, Jeffry, daughters Theresa E. Webb and Jennifer L. Webb both of Lorain, 4 grandchildren, her father Walter Szuja of Sevierville, Tennessee, her mother Natalia (nee Chechetin) of Lorain, brother Walter Szuja residing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and sisters Vera Proy of Lorain and Bella Fallner of Macedonia, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Sergey and Evdakia (nee Karalkova) Chechetin, and by her paternal grandparents Klyemko and Maria Szuja.

Visitation will be Monday, May 5, 2003 from 3-5 and 7-9 PM in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain where a Panachida service will be offered at 7:30 PM. Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning at 9:30 Am in the funeral chapel and will be followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 AM in St. John Ukrainian Catholic Church, East 31st Street and Charleston Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Steve Paliwoda, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
