Cletus P. Hipp, 88, Enjoyed woodworking, painting, fishing, and boating

He was born February 21, 1915 in Monroeville, Ohio and had resided in Elyria Township for the past 30 years moving from Lorain.

Mr. Hipp served with the US Navy during World War II on the USS Connolly (DE 306) as a Radarman 2nd Class.

He worked at Lorain County Beverage as a manager for 45 years, retiring in 1980.

Mr. Hipp was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and the St. Vincent de Paul Holy Name Society in which he was a past president. He was a member of the Legion of Mary of the church and a past president of the Lorain County Deanery. He was a past member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Norwalk, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1079 of Elyria, Knights of Columbus of Lorain and the Destroyer-Escort Historical Foundation.

He enjoyed woodworking, painting, fishing, and boating.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Lucille (nee Shibley), son Larry A. Hipp of Elyria, daughter Janet L. Hipp of Chicago, Illinois, granddaughter Lindsey Hipp and her mother Lori Hipp both of Amherst, sisters Rosemarie Miller of Bellevue and Grace Sage of Vermilion and brother Melvin Hipp of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Theresa (nee Smith) Hipp and brother Lester Hipp.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 8, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the St. Vincent de Paul Holy Name Society will pray the rosary Thursday at 3:30 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 AM at the funeral chapel followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Road, Elyria Township. The Rev. James Ols, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Norwalk.
