MaryAnn Uszak, 66, Red Cross Volunteer, teacher, enjoyed golfing and bicycling
MaryAnn Uszak (nee Strasko), age 66, of Avon, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003 with her husband and children by her side, following a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer.She is survived by her husband Robert G. of Avon, brother John S. Strasko of Elyria, father John Strasko of Lorain, daughters: Kathleen Uszak Guist of Cleveland, Diane Pedicini of Olmsted Township, and Elaine Seder of Avon, sons Robert J. of Elyria and Brian of Maple Heights, 8 grandchildren, and Eddie the dog.
She was preceded in death by her mother Ann (nee Zatroch) Strasko in 1990.
She graduated from Clearview High School in 1955, completed the Kent State University Cadet Teachers Program in 1957 and received her bachelor's degree from Kent State in 1970. Her graduate work was done at Ashland College in Bowling Green. She retired from the Lorain City Schools in 1987 where she taught primary grades K-3 and was a member of the Lorain county Retired Teacher's Association.
MaryAnn volunteered for the American Red Cross and LifeShare (Lorain County Bloodbank). She was active in promoting Integrative and Complementary Therapies in the treatment of cancer, and holds the honorary title of Tofu Queen.
She enjoyed golfing, bicycling and Hilton Head Island, and would be celebrating 46 years of marriage on July 13th.
There will be no visitation. Entombment was in the mausoleum of Holy Trinity Cemetery, Avon, in a private ceremony. A Memorial Mass is planned for Saturday, May 24, 2003 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary of the Falls, 26515 Bagley Road, Olmsted Falls. There will be a reception immediately following the memorial mass.
