Carl E. Mack, 99, Deacon at local Baptist Churches, enjoyed playing golf
Carl E. Mack, 99 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2003 at his home after a two-year illness.He was born in 1903 in Austria. He came to the USA in 1904 with his parents and settled in Greensburg, PA. In 1920 he moved to Lorain and then to Amherst in 1954. He worked for the U.S. Steel Corp in Lorain for forty years retiring in 1962 from the Central Maintenance Dept. as a shop foreman. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Lorain where he served as a former Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon. He was also a charter member of the Penfield Baptist Church in Lorain where he also served as a Sunday School Superintendent and a Deacon. He belonged to the U.S.S. Management Club, Senior Fellowship Club and the AARP. He enjoyed playing golf and did so until he was in his early 90's.
Survivors include his son Richard J. Mack of Lorain, daughter, Donna Brightbill of Amherst, ten grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Hazel F. Mack (nee Butler) on April 4, 1988, daughters: Shirley M. Mack in 1929 and Carlene A. Zabrecky in 1996, by brothers: Frank and Joseph, and sister Amelia Emma Sislow and by his parents John and Sophie Mack (nee Schemek).
Friends may call Tuesday, May 13, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM from the Fellowship Baptist Church, 5046 Broadway, Lorain, Ohio. The Rev. Jack Ison, pastor of Fellowship Baptist will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
