Carl W. Stafford, 86, Enjoyed hunting and fishing

Carl W. Stafford, age 86, of Vermilion, Ohio, died Sunday, May 11, 2003 at New Life Hospice Center in Lorain after a lengthy illness.

Born May 15, 1916 in Gagetown, Michigan, he was a Vermilion resident since 1981 moving from Cass City, Michigan. He had also lived in Granite City, Illinois.

He retired after 48 years as a chemist for the Nestles' Company, White Plains, New Jersey. He had been a member of the Methodist Church of Cass City, Michigan and the Masonic Lodge of Cass City and Ubly, Michigan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his daughters Sharron Gettens of Vermilion and Sandra Ambuehl of Granite City, Illinois, grandchildren: James Gettens of Vermilion, Patrick Gettens of Bay Village, Michael Gettens of Vermilion, Bonita Amenda of Monticello, IL, Tammy Jovi of Granite City, IL, and Tracy Gifford of Moore, Oklahoma, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille in 1989, and sisters Irene Stafford and Neva Greenleaf.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City, Michigan. The Reverend Robert Garrett, former pastor of United Methodist Church, will officiate.

The Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, is handling local arrangements.
