L.A. "Tony" Mercurio, 62, Barber for many years, most recently Bob's in North Ridgeville and the founder of RAMCO

Photo of L.A. L.A. "Tony" Mercurio, age 62, of Lorain, died Monday, May 12, 2003 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following a brief illness. He was born September 8, 1940 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.

Mr. Mercurio was a graduate of Lorain High School and went on to attend Molar Barber College in Cleveland, Ohio. He was employed as a barber at a variety of shops throughout the area, most recently associated with Bob's Barber Shop in North, Ridgeville.

He was also the founder and president of RAMCO, a carpet cleaning, mat maintenance, and janitorial service operating in the greater Lorain area. He was most recently employed as a member of the City of Lorain's Street Department.

A veteran of the Ohio National Guard where he served as a sergeant with the Company B of the 112th Combat Engineer's Battalion based in Lorain.

A parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lorain, his hobbies included cooking, boating, fishing, travel, and reading, especially the works of James Patterson. He was formerly active with the Sheffield Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn (nee Matos), sons Anthony of Dacula, Georgia and Michael of South Euclid, one grandson, and sisters Lucille DeGenaro and Antoinette "Toni" Macartney both of Lorain, and Phyllis Sedar of Avon Lake.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Mercurio-Medina in 1990, his father Antonio in 1997, mother Mary (nee Golini) in 1962, and by brothers Oscar in 1975 and Dante "Don" in 1994.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 14, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel and will be followed by his funeral mass at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Joseph West, O.F.M. Conv., pastor of the church will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family suggests memorials in his name to either New Life Hospice, 5255 North Abbe Rd., Elyria, Ohio 44035, or to the Fr. Marion Ross Recreation Complex in care of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
