Marie D. Rak, 81, Former Avon Woman of the Year, enjoyed golfing, traveling, and dancing

Marie D. Rak (nee Heinebrodt), 81, of Avon passed away Sunday, May 18, 2003 at the Northridge Health Center, North Ridgeville following a lengthy illness. She was born October 18, 1921 in Avon and was a lifelong resident.

She was a graduate of the Avon High School and the Oberlin Business School and retired in 2000 as an accountant for Mahilic Properties, Lorain. She also did income tax preparation and had previously worked as a bookkeeper for the Avon Water Department.

Marie was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, Avon; the Altrusa Women's Club, and a founding member of the Avon ladies Golf League. She was also a member of the Avon Women's Club for over 50 years, where she served as Avon Student Loan Fund Chairman for many years. She was Woman of the Year in Avon several years ago. She enjoyed golfing, traveling, music, and dancing.

Mrs. Rak is survived by her brother William (Cheryl) Heinebrodt of North Ridgeville, three nephews and five cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Peter, and her parents Clifford and Olivia (nee Conrad) Heinebrodt.

Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 32000 Detroit Rd. Avon from 3-5 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, May 20, 2003. Prayer Services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, May 21, at 9:15 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 2640 Stoney Ridge Rd., Avon at 10:00 AM. Rev. Thomas Cleaton, pastor of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Avon.
