James Buckosh, 82, Lake Erie Lanes Proprietor

James Buckosh, age 82, of Vermilion, died Thursday, May 22, 2003 at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born on June 1, 1920 in Carterete, New Jersey and has lived in Vermilion since 1949.

He worked for the US Steel Company in Lorain where he was a crane operator and billet roller in the #3 seamless mill. He worked for 42 years, retiring in 1982. He was also the former owner of Willow's Motel & Restaurant in Vermilion and was President and proprietor of Lake Erie Lanes.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4539. Mr. Buckosh was an avid bowler, in 1999; he was presented with the Lorain Proprietor Bowling Association Hall of Fame Pioneer Award.

Survivors include his wife, Lila (nee Eneff) Buckosh, whom he married on August 22, 1942; 3 daughters, Dawn Holden of Belhaven, NC; Denise Ann Campell of Oberlin; and Danna Louise Mitchell of Oberlin; 2 sons, Clifford James Buckosh of Hendersonville, TN and George Louis Buckosh of Vermilion; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Elizabeth Suppa of Lorain; 2 brothers, Frank Buckosh and Joseph Buckosh, both of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Katherine (nee Lokas) Buckosh, 2 sisters, Grace Figlio and Helen Kessel and 4 brothers, Lewis, Steve, Alex and George Buckosh.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 25, 2003 from 12 to 2 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion; prayers will be conducted by the Knights of Columbus at 5:30 p.m.

Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at 12:30 p.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, with Reverend Steve Blum pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
