Jennie C. Walend, 83, Enjoyed crafting especially knitting, crocheting, and quilt making

Mrs. Walend worked at Western Automatic (Stanadyne/Moen) and American Crucible. She also worked the polls for the Lorain Board of Elections.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain, the Altar & Rosary Society, the Young Ladies Sodality and the Women's Guild all of the church. She was an active volunteer at St. Stanislaus School where she helped in the cafeteria, was a room mother and served on the PTA Board.
Mrs. Walend enjoyed crafting especially knitting, crocheting, tatting, and quilt making.
She is survived by her sons, Alan Walend of Vermilion and Stephen F. Walend of Sheffield Township; daughters Marilyn Chavez of Kokomo, Indiana and Joan Koons and Anne Losh, both of Sheffield Township, 13 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, brothers John Olejko of Lorain and former Lorain Mayor Alex Olejko of Lorain, sisters Bernice Sadowski and Josephine Schneider, both of Lorain, Helen Chmielewski of Parma, and Mary Poprock and Stella James, both of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen Walend on December 9, 2002, parents Blasé & Stella (nee Ginalski) Olejko and brothers Karolek Olejko in infancy, Frank A. "Keen-Eye" Olejko and Joseph Olejko.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 27, 2003 from 3-8 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the St. Stanislaus Altar & Rosary Society will pray the rosary Tuesday at 4:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 2702 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Kevin Shemuga, pastor and the Rev. William Schill, deacon, will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
