Melvin "Bud" Weigel, 77, WW II Navy Veteran, licensed pilot
Melvin "Bud" Weigel, age 77, of Elyria passed away Sunday, May 25, 2003 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born February 20, 1926 and has lived in the Lorain area since 1956 coming from Cleveland.Mr. Weigel was employed as a mechanic at the Elyria Harley Davidson. After his retirement he operated Bud's Place where he rebuilt Alternators and Starters.
He served in World War II in the Navy on the USS Hornet. He was also a member of the Too Tired Motorcycle Club, and was a licensed pilot.
Mr. Weigel is survived by his caregivers Jeffrey and Debbie Bowers of North Ridgeville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Elizabeth C. Weigel (nee Schildler) in 2002, two brothers, Floyd and Eugene Weigel, and sister Dolores Weigel.
Friends may call Tuesday, May 27, 2003 from 6-9 PM at the Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway, Lorain, Ohio. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11:30 AM in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Rev. Gary Bernath will officiate. The Elyria VFW Post 1079 will perform military honors.
