Maria Colon, 88, Enjoyed sewing, gardening, and music
Maria Colon (nee Ortiz), age 88, of Lorain, died on May 26, 2003 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 5, 1914 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico. She moved to Lorain in 1951.She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and music.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Domingo, son Nelson Colon, of Sheffield Township, daughters Nilda Colon of Avon and Nellie Colon of Euclid, four grandchildren, a great grandson, and sister Maria Ortiz of Caparra Terrace, San Juan, Puerto Rico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Juana (nee Aviles) Ortiz, brothers: Francisco, Marcial, and Luis, sisters: Rosa, Herminia, Celia, and Aurelia.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 30, 2003 from 9:30 AM until time of prayer service at 10:30 AM in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, followed by an 11:00 AM mass at Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
