Joseph Ray "Red" Smith, 68, Enjoyed hunting and fishing
Joseph Ray "Red " Smith, age 68 of Oberlin, passed away in his home Mondayevening after a long illness. He was born May 5, 1935 in Smithville, West
Virginia and had lived most of his life in Oberlin. He was a member of the
New Hope Church of God in Elyria. He was formerly employed by Ford Motor
Co. in Brookpark as an assembler. Mr. Smith was active with the Sundance
Kids 4H group and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Helen " Jackie " (nee Barker) married in December 1957, 1 daughter Teresa Lynn Burrell of Cincinnati, Ohio, 1 son Joseph " Gene " of Medina, Ohio, 4 grandchildren. Other survivors include 6 sisters Virginia Morgan of Elyria, Betty Mannings of Elyria, Sarah Kamanski of Wellington, Leona Henthorne of Oberlin, WanietaGoudy and Louise Goudy both of West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles and infant sister Muriel.
Friends may call in the Blackburn Funeral Home 1021 Main St. Grafton on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 PM. Pastor Mark Reynolds of the Intersession Fellowship Church in Oberlin will officiate. Mr. Smith will then be taken to the United Methodist Church in Olive Hill, Kentucky where friends may call from Noon until service at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Barker Cemetery, Grahn, Kentucky. Family suggests that memorials be made to the Visiting Nurses Hospice Program 2500 E.22nd St. Cleveland, Ohio 44115.
