Stephen "Pete" C. Kaczur, 79, U.S. Army Veteran
Stephen "Pete" C. Kaczur 79, of Lorain, died Monday, June 2, 2003 at Community Heath Partners Hospital in Lorain following a lengthy illness.He was born on August 19, 1923 in Lorain, and has been a Lorain resident his entire life. Mr. Kaczur worked as a heavy equipment operator in the Transportation Dept. of U.S. Steel for 40 years, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Kaczur was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. He was a lineman and rifle marksman in Italy, southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 Bronze stars and 1 bronze arrowhead, and WWII Victory Medal.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Lake Erie Moose Lodge #552 in Lorain and the Senior Roller Skater of America where he served as the director. His hobbies include roller skating, handicrafts and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Gwen H. (nee Coates), daughters Kathy Smith and Christine Banes of Lorain, 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 3 step great-grandchildren and sister Tillie Dugovich of Chicago, Illnois.
Mr. Kaczur was preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Emma (Soltez) Kaczur, brother John and sister Audrey Kaczur.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home 1939 Oberlin Ave. where services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Steve Blum, pastor of St. Mary Church in Vermilion will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst, Ohio.
