Gertrude R. Butkowski, 91

Gertrude R. Butkowski (nee Zajac), age 91, of Lorain, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home following a brief illness. She was born December 20, 1911 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.

Mrs. Butkowski graduated from Lorain High School. She was employed as a coil winder for the Lorain Products Corporation for many years retiring in 1976. She had previously been employed as a sales associate for the W.T. Grant Company and the S.S. Kresge Company as well as a seamstress for the S. Weitz Company of Lorain.

A parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain her interests included quilting, baking, crocheting, and reading. She was also an ardent follower of the Cleveland Indians.

Survivors include her daughter: Elaine A. Bruder of Lorain, a son David J. Butkowski of Lorain, and three grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leon J. Butkowski in 1960, by her parents Peter and Anna (nee Novak) Zajac, and by a sister Helen Plica.

Visitation will be Friday, June 6, 2003 from 5-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by her funeral mass 10:00 a.m. in Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor of Nativity Parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
