Charles S. Mucha, 89, of Lorain, died Friday, June 6, 2003 at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Amherst after a long illness with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born March 10, 1914 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Prior to World War II, Mr. Much worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He worked at US Steel in Lorain in the Open Hearth and the BOP Shop for 39 years retiring in 1976.
Mr. Mucha was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, the United Polish Club, Polish Fisherman's Club, PLAV Post #38, and the American Slovak Club, all of Lorain.
He enjoyed bowling and participated in several leagues in the area. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and gardening as well.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Wilma R. (nee Stawicki), daughter Mrs. David (Charlotte) Hyer of Lorain, sons Timothy Much of Crawfordsville, Indiana, and Gale Mucha of Lorain, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Pauline (nee Tubec) Mucha, sisters Mary Habeck, Louise Saltis, and Sister Mary Barbara, brothers John Wrobel and Joseph Mucha.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 9, 2003 from 3-8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Robert Glepko, pastor and the Rev. Robert Dybo, deacon will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
