Burl Davis, 81, Lorain Ford Retiree, enjoyed woodworking, reading the Bible, and his family

Photo of Burl Davis Burl Davis, 81, of Vermilion, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a brief illness. He was born February 9, 1922 in Magazine, Arkansas and has been a Vermilion resident since 1958 moving from Memphis, Tennessee.

He worked in the body shop of the Lorain Ford plant for 29 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy serving on the USS Guam in the South Pacific between 1942-1945. He also served in the Air Force Reserves for one year. Mr. Davis was a member of the Local Union #425 and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, tending to his flowers, reading the Bible, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bernice Davis (nee McDune) one daughter, Donna Davis of Vermilion, three grandchildren, three sisters: Edith Clark of Wynee, Arkansas, Thelma Moddy of Idapell, Oklahoma, and Alta Stewart of Nesbit, Mississippi and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ed and Sarah (nee Rodgers) Davis, and two brothers: Murl and Earl Davis.

Friends may call Wednesday, June 11, 2003 from 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst where the Vermilion Veterans Council will be conducting military honors.
