Bernice E. Maxwell, 77, Past parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter, Lorain
Bernice E. Maxwell, age 77, former long-time Lorain resident, died Sunday June 8, 2003 at the Mayview Convalescent Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, following an extended illness. She had been a resident of North Carolina since 2001.Mrs. Maxwell was born in Lorain, Ohio and was a former parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain. She currently attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Community in Raleigh.
Survivors include daughters, Linda Bedo of North Carolina, Jennifer Scheiferstein of Amherst, her mother Sophie Halabuk (nee Ganobsik) of Amherst, Ohio, three granddaughters, one great grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 1989, by her father Stephen Halabuk in 1985 and by her sister Eleanor Sedivy in 2002.
An evening prayer service will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Community 11401 Leesville Road, Raleigh, North Carolina. A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst, Ohio where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. The Reverend Lawrence Martello, pastor of St. Joseph parish will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in her memory to either Catholic Social Ministries, 715 Nazareth Road, Raleigh, North Carolina 27606 or to Catholic Charities, 1111 Superior Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44114.
Local arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, Lorain.
