Peter C. Vander Maelen, 89, Ford Plant Retiree, enjoyed boating and fishing

He was born March 14, 1914 in Medford, Massachusetts and has been a Vermilion resident since 1961.
He worked in the freight and inspection departments at the Lorain Ford Plant for 41 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. Mr. Vander Maelen was a member of the local UAW #425 and an honorary member of Amvets Post #22. He enjoyed boating and fishing.
Survivors include two daughters: Ellen Vander Maelen of Berlin Hts., Ohio and Ann Mogar of Lowell, Michigan, two sons, Cam Vander Maelen of Clinton, Connecticut, and Leo Vander Maelen of Vermilion, Ohio, four grandchildren, one sister, Maria Hathaway, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Margaret Vander Maelen (nee Green) in 2002, parents Camiel and Clementina (nee Gelan) Vander Maelen.
Friends may call Wednesday, June 11, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio, where a Christian wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m.
Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Thursday, June 12, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 731 Exchange St., Vermilion, with the Rev. Steven Blum, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
