LeRoy Millard Nichols, 80, US Navy Veteran and enjoyed engine repair, roller skating and was an avid sports fan

LeRoy Millard Nichols, 80 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Community Health Partners H & S Center, Lorain following a lengthy illness.

He was born March 2, 1923 in Elyria. He was raised in Elyria and Amherst Township and lived in both until settling in Amherst Township in 1951.

Mr. Nichols served in the US Navy during World War II in New Guinea. He was a self-employed carpenter from 1957 until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Amherst and enjoyed small engine repair, roller skating and was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his sons, Gary Nichols of Amherst, Dean Nichols of South Amherst, and Russell Nichols of Vermilion; his daughters Linda Conrady of Amherst Township and Darla Snyder of South Amherst; seventeen grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and his sisters Novelda Martin of Elyria and Alice Gore of Wellington.

He was preceded in death by his parents Forest and Helen Clara (nee Tuttle) Nichols; by his brothers Ralph Nichols and Robert Nichols; and by his sisters Thelma Fulmer.

Friends may call Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hemple Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Carson Fraley, pastor of North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, South Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
